The APA is a New York State government agency, consisting of
approximately 72 staff and an eleven-member board. In 1971 the APA was
created by the State Legislature to develop long-range land use plans for
both public and private lands within the Park.

The purpose of the Commission generally is to preserve, protect,
and enhance the unique natural, scenic and recreational resources of the
Lake George Park. To do so the Commission has specific regulatory and
enforcement powers relating to activities on the lake, along the shoreline
and within the land drainage basin.

Since 1885, the Lake George Association (LGA) has been the leading
citizen group advocating a reasoned approach to management of the Lake
George watershed to ensure long-term stability of water quality and of the
watershed's environmental and economic viability.

The Lake George watershed
encompasses approximately 150,000 acres in the three counties of Essex,

The FUND for Lake George is a not-for-profit, privately funded
organization dedicated to the protection of Lake George and its nine
surrounding communities. Formed in 1980, the FUND implements a science-based
approach to the protection of Lake George water quality and the overall
health of the Lake George watershed.

The
Lake George WATERKEEPER was launched in 2002. The Lake George WATERKEEPER is a
program of the FUND for Lake George and is a resource for concerned citizens
in the Lake George Basin who are concerned about land use and water quality.
The WATERKEEPER responds to all public inquiries and acts as an ombudsman with
respect to issues having an environmental impact on Lake George and its
watershed.

The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) is a land trust working to preserve
the world-renowned water quality of Lake George and the rare plants and
animals within its watershed by permanently protecting natural lands. Founded
in 1988, LGLC works with landowners, government officials, conservation
partners, volunteers, and supporters aimed at securing the protection of
special natural places for future generations to enjoy.
